Aluminium recovered from Halifax bomber Halifax LW682
Bomber Command Memorial 28-06-2012 CDD (21)
Architecture by Liam O'Connor. "The fate of the crews and their aircraft is melded into the very fabric of the memorial; aluminium recovered from a Halifax bomber that crashed in Belgium has been smelted into sheets that line the roof of the monument, behind a stainless steel lattice that copies the geodesic fuselage construction of Wellington bombers.
The architect Liam O’Connor paid such attention to detail that even the rivets holding the metal ceiling together are exact scale replicas of those used in bomber aircraft." - The Guardian
